Cross Country & Basketball
Ross Blake was an assistant coach in both cross country and basketball. He was assistant in cross country from 1960 to 1986 and in basketball for eleven seasons. The cross country teams won twelve Conference titles during his reign as assistant coach, including a "five-peat" from 1965-1969. Coach Blake helped produce five All-State runners during his career: John Greco, Lee LeBadie, Jack St John, John Dobbs and Jeff Gallagher. Coach Blake's winning ways continued on the basketball court, with a Conference title in 1970. Coach Blake had one attribute that all Warrior athletes remember who practiced outside during the Fall season. He perhaps had the loudest voice of any man to walk the halls of Maine West. No matter what sport one was on or where the field was, everyone could hear his famous "run. . . run. . . run. . .".
