Basketball, Football, Track, Tennis
1965 1977 1989
When Robert Goerne began his coaching career in 1964 with boys' track and field, he had no idea it would end 36 years later with girls' tennis.

Coach Goerne's career began in the cinder track of Maine West, helping the boys to win the Conference title in 1967. The next winter, Bob found himself coaching boys' basketball, where he remained for the next six out of seven years. In the spring of 1969, Bob added sport number three to his resume, Tennis. In the fall of 1974, Bob now added football to his list of sports. He coached football for four years. Then in 1979, Bob returned to the hardwood to coach boys' basketball, where he remained until 1990, helping the Warriors win the Conference title in 1980 and 1982. Bob finished his career coaching boys' and girls' tennis.

Looking back over his career, Bob fondly remembers watching kids improve through their hard work, realizing true victories come when kids beat the war within themselves. Bob also remembers the birth of the Jr Warriors and the 5th and 6th grade programs where he was able to watch kids develop into promissing young athletes.

Through a career that spanned five decades, four sports, thirty-eight seasons and three Conference championships, Robert Goerne is hereby eligible for induction into the Maine West Coaches Hall of Fame.
