Neil Loewe '74
This is a memoir about a kid who always wanted to become a firefighter who became a hometown cop instead. We’ll go through the Chicago Police Academy and head out on patrol where you’ll experience what being a police officer was like through my eyes. Humor, tragedy, and surprises are all there in this story that gives a view of that occupation that you don’t often see on television.

After I retire, you’ll get a chance to witness some of the lasting effects the job had on me and how I try to undo them.

This is a book for anyone interested in a career in law enforcement, anyone who has someone close to them who is interested in such a career, and anyone who wants to know more about what it’s like to wear a badge, carry a gun, and be the one who is sent when there is trouble.

Neil graduated in 1974 and is a retired police officer with the City of Des Plaines, Illinois, USA. He started that job at age 22 in 1978, witnessed traumatic incidents during that time, and dealt with stress that continued long after he retired. His short stories have been featured in both local and national publications and he has taught a memoir writing class through a local library. His book is available at Amazon.com.
